Who we are

Plainapply is a job-search service operated by FairSwap LLC (“we”, “us”), in the United States. This policy explains what we collect when you use Plainapply, why, who else handles it, and how to have it deleted. You can reach us at hello@getplainapply.com.

What we collect

  • Your account: your email address. Your password is handled by our sign-in provider and stored only as a one-way hash; we can't read it.
  • Resumes you upload (PDF, Word or text files), and the facts read from them: job titles, employers, dates, what you did, skills, education and certifications, along with the passage each fact came from. Nothing is used until you confirm it, and you can edit or reject any fact.
  • Contact details and preferences: name, email and phone for applications, location, links, target roles, seniority, locations, remote and travel preferences, salary floor, work authorization, sponsorship, security clearance, companies to exclude and phrases never to use.
  • Saved answers to application questions, including a desired-salary answer if you save one. Voluntary self-identification choices (gender, race, Hispanic or Latino, veteran and disability status) only if you choose to save them; the default is to leave those questions blank for you every time.
  • What Plainapply makes for you: tailored resumes, cover letters, the gaps between a posting and your facts, and the results of the checks run on them.
  • Your job tracker: jobs you save, dismiss or apply to, their status, dates and your notes.
  • Usage logs: which action ran (for example a fit check or tailoring), for which job, which AI model, how many tokens it used, what it cost and when. These enforce plan limits and cost caps.
  • Billing records if you pay: your plan, Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, payments, refunds, and the cancellation reason you give, if any. Card numbers go to Stripe and never reach us.

The browser extension

When you open the Plainapply assistant on a Greenhouse, Lever or Ashby application, it reads that form's questions and fills them from your confirmed facts, contact details, preferences and saved answers. It sends the posting's web address to us to find the matching job and your approved resume. It never submits an application: you review the form and click Submit yourself. After you submit, it can mark the job as applied in your tracker. The extension keeps only your account id and email in its own browser storage, never a password or key.

How we use it

  • To run the service: read facts from your resumes, find and rank jobs, check fit, write resumes and cover letters from your confirmed facts only, fill application forms, and show your results.
  • To take payments and apply your plan's limits.
  • To keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and answer you when you contact us.

We don't sell your data, share it for advertising, or use it to build profiles for anyone else. Plainapply has no ads, and no analytics or tracking scripts.

Who else handles it

We use these service providers (subprocessors), only for the purposes above:

  • Supabase: our database, sign-in and private file storage, hosted in the United States.
  • Anthropic (the Claude API): receives the text needed for each step (your resume text, confirmed facts, relevant preferences and the job posting) to read facts, check fit, and write and check resumes and cover letters. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, it doesn't use this data to train its models.
  • Stripe: handles payments and sends your receipts and payment emails. You enter card details on Stripe's page, and we receive the plan and payment status.
  • AgentMail (email) and Slack (a backup copy): notify us when someone buys or is refunded the Done-for-you service, with that customer's name, email and amount.
  • Cloudflare: hosts this website, processing each request (including your IP address and browser details) to deliver and protect it, and forwards email sent to hello@getplainapply.com.

Plainapply reads public job postings from job boards and public government sources but sends them none of your data. When you apply, you send your application to the employer yourself. If we add or change a provider, we update this list first.

Cookies

This public website sets no cookies. Inside the app, one sign-in cookie keeps you signed in; it's needed for the app to work and isn't used for anything else.

How long we keep it, and deleting it

  • We keep your data while your account is open.
  • To delete your account, email hello@getplainapply.com from your account's email address. We delete your account and its data (uploaded resumes, facts, preferences, answers, tailored resumes and cover letters and their files, tracker and usage logs) within 30 days of your request. If you have Pro, we cancel it first, so you aren't charged again.
  • Usage logs are deleted automatically once they're 24 months old, and with your account if that comes first.
  • Stripe keeps its own payment records under its own policies, and we may keep records of payments where tax or accounting law requires it.

Security and data breaches

Connections are encrypted. Each account can only reach its own data, uploaded files are stored privately and shared only through links that expire within minutes, and our service keys stay on our servers. Our service providers are bound by their terms to keep data secure and to tell us about a breach on their side. No system is perfectly secure, so this is what we do if one happens:

  • If someone gets hold of your personal information without permission, we tell you, free of charge and without unreasonable delay, by email or by mail (a law-enforcement agency can ask us in writing to wait while it investigates).
  • The notice says what happened and what to do. If your sign-in details were involved, change your password, and change it anywhere else you use the same email and password. If information such as an ID number, an account number or health information (for example a saved disability self-identification answer) was involved, the notice includes how to reach the national credit bureaus and the Federal Trade Commission about fraud alerts and security freezes.
  • If more than 500 Illinois residents are affected, we also notify the Illinois Attorney General.

Your choices

  • You can see, edit or delete your facts, answers, tailored documents and tracker entries in the app at any time.
  • You can ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct or delete it, by emailing hello@getplainapply.com.

Age

Plainapply is for people 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone younger.

Changes to this policy

When this policy changes, we update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how your data is used, we'll email account holders before it takes effect.
